Hot Topics for iPhone Developers

Tuesday, 22 Jul 2008

At the end of last night’s iPhone Developers’ Meetup we had a brainstorming session to make a list of hot topics that we would like to see presented at future meetups. If you are an expert on any of these topics or want to study up and become one, consider sharing that with us at a future meetup.

We usually meet on the third Monday of the month: August 18, September 15, and so on… Feel free to post more suggestions in the comments and email me (tim at neontology dot com) if you want to get on the list to present.

Here’s our list of topics:

  • Using Google App Engine to build the web service side of an iPhone application
  • Interfacing with web services over HTTP/XML
  • Caching data on the iPhone
  • Remembering where you are in an app to provide friendly restarts
  • Monetization through advertising, etc.
  • Pricing
  • Common gotchas for iPhone developers
  • OpenGL on the iPhone
  • Using dynamic languages for development on the iPhone
  • Search shortened trees for faster navigation
  • UI design advice
  • Geocoding
  • Core Audio
  • Networking
  • Performance measurement and tuning
  • Memory management

In general, I’m looking for 10-20 minute presentations that introduce a topic, show some examples, and include pointers to more information to help people explore further. And if you have code or other examples to share, go to the head of the class!
